The Simple Pleasure of . . .

This week I was struck with the simple pleasure of polka dots . . .

Or any small dot, for that matter.
Two of my favorites are diamonds and sharp pencil points. Not necessarily in that order. I love salt and sugar. Glitter and doorbells. Especially when the grandkids are giggling on the other side of the door. There's freckles and bubbles and fork pricks in the top crust of a homemade pie.
I'm thankful for dot com's and smiley faces at the end of texts. For the pause we find in punctuation marks and the pick-me-up in coffee beans.
Some small dots splash bold color. Take the gum ball machine, seeds, and rain drops in the desert. Or hide things, like pirate eye patches, bandades, and a dot of cover-up over a blemish.
Polka dots speak in whimsical silence. Pink whispers sweet girl or blue celebrates baby boy. Some dots carry more clout than others, like gold over silver, and silver over copper.
I know you're busy. If this seems foolish, consider the white sparkles in a summer's night sky and how it draws the mind to bigger, more important things, like eternity and God.
What else? Are there any little dots that bless you?
(I'm starting a Simple Pleasures Pinterest Board. If you have a photo that fits the theme for the simple pleasure of small dots, email it to me at christianfiction@rocketmail.com. It can be anything from a quilt to your child's freckles. Let's have fun with this. Spread the word!)
